MUSC students.  Hats off for pushing for an independent review of alleged cheating at the medical school after school leaders took no action in a scandal that has the school up in arms.  More.

U.S. House.  The chamber has passed a bill that includes a provision to keep the deepening of Charleston harbor on schedule.  A water infrastructure bill, in peril a few days ago, now goes to a compromise committee with the Senate, which earlier passed a different version.

Foreclosures.  They’re down 18.6 percent from last year, another indicator of an improving economy.  More.

Reaching out.  SC Equality PAC, a leading LGBTQ activist group, has for the first time endorsed Republicans in state elections, including a lawyer who is expected to be the state’s first openly gay legislator.  More.

In the middle

SRS.  The U.S. Department of Energy has no strategy for long-term operations at the Savannah River Site.  Really?  Get it together.  Meanwhile, serious risks are found at a Columbia nuclear fuel factory.

Thumbs down

School shooting.  A 14-year-old Upstate boy is accused of killing his father and shooting three at a Townville elementary school.  When are the state and nation going to do something significant about the escalation of gun violence?  Continuing to do the same thing (nothing) isn’t going to make things better.

Gee. Across the state, public officials are mourning the loss of S.C. Circuit Court Judge Tanya Gee after a fight with cancer.  At 39, she was seen as a rising star in the state’s judiciary.
