00_icon_palmettopolitics(UPDATED, 10/10) Members of the public can give testimony at 11 a.m. Oct. 18 to the special House Tax Policy Review Committee in Room 110 of the Blatt Building on the Statehouse grounds in Columbia.  The meeting originally was scheduled to be held at the same time Oct. 11 but was moved due to Hurricane Matthew.

There’s a long list of guidelines, which can be found here, but they essentially urge people or organizations that want to speak to sign up before the meeting.  Speakers will be limited to five minutes and they are encourage to submit comments in writing for the record.

According to a press release, “You don’t need to appear in public to have your voice heard.  You may submit comments or materials via email and those will be given to the committee members.  All speaker’s remarks and materials should be considered to be public upon receipt by the committee.”

The meeting will be streamed live on the S.C. House website (www.scstatehouse.gov) and on ETV.

State to allow more time to register to vote due to storm

The time for citizens to register to vote was supposed to end Oct. 8, 30 days before the Nov. 8 general election.  But because Hurricane Matthew interrupted the business week and post offices, officials have extended for a few days:

Voter registration applications by mail must be postmarked by Tuesday, Oct. 11.

Online, email or faxed voter registration applications must be submitted by Sunday, Oct. 9.
