TALLY SHEET: Few new bills filed

00_icon_tallysheetWith the House on furlough for the past week, the only action related to newly-related bills was in the Senate, where 22 new measures were introduced. Of interest:

Judicial elections. S. 1082 (Hembree) would prohibit a legislator’s spouse from seeking a judgeship while the legislator is serving, plus one year after service is complete.

Alimony. S. 1087 (Gregory) seeks to amend state alimony laws to allow it to end when the supporting former spouse reaches retirement age or when the period of alimony exceeds the length of the marriage, with several provisions.

Higher ed reciprocity. S. 1091 (Setzler) would allow the state Commission on Higher Education to enter interstate reciprocity agreements related to college tuition and distance education, with several provisions.

Judges. S. 1099 (Shealy) seeks to have a governor appoint family and administrative court judges with approval of the General Assembly, with several provisions. S. 1100 (Shealy) seeks a constitutional amendment to allow a governor to state Supreme Court, appellate and circuit judges, with the General Assembly’s approval.
