Greenville. Wouldn’t it be great if the city could become a military aircraft center supplying jets for fighter pilot training?  More.

Department of Energy.  Thank goodness the federal agency has agreed to move six metric tons of plutonium from S.C. to New Mexico.  Now let’s get rid of the rest of the mess and not take any more.  More.

Good experiment.  A House plan calls for teachers in 42 of the state’s high-poverty school districts to get a salary boost for one year.  More.

Thumbs down

Wilson.  We can’t figure out what Attorney General Alan Wilson is doing with the House corruption investigation.  First he assigned a special prosecutor because he thought he should recuse himself.  Then when the prosecutor wanted to go to the state grand jury, he said no, complaining that the prosecutor had “tainted” the process.  But interjecting himself back into the process seems to make the recusal moot, which begs the question about why is he getting involved now.  Aren’t the same conflicts still there?  Let’s hope the Supreme Court clears up the mess so we can get the truth about whether the House has corruption problems.

NCAA.  Really? You sent the University of South Carolina a note by email saying they made the NCAA March tournament … and then had to apologize for messing up.  At least you apologized.

Number: 9th

According to a new analysis by WalletHub, the median South Carolina taxpayer pays $4,009 in annual state and local taxes, which is the ninth lowest tax rate in the country.  More.

Quote: Flip-flop flop

“I did not call you back because the Attorney General recused your office from this investigation.  To attempt to un-recuse your office is in my opinion inconsistent with the law concerning recusal and an extraordinary position to take.”

— First Circuit Solicitor David Pascoe, to Chief Deputy Attorney General John McIntosh after the state Attorney General’s office tried to get Pascoe removed as the special prosecutor by Wilson  to look into House corruption after he recused himself over a conflict of interest.  Pascoe has filed a motion with the state Supreme Court to block his removal and another solicitor appointed to the job said he won’t take it until the conflict is decided.  More.
