This photo, taken in 2006, is in a rural part of Colleton County in the ACE Basin.  Built in 1950, it’s called the New Zion Baptist Church, replacing what was the Zion Baptist Church, which was founded in 1843.  These days, the church looks better — it’s got a bright green metal roof.  To learn a little more about a particular kind of worship house in South Carolina, see today’s Encyclopedia entry on “praise houses.”   Photo by Andy Brack.
